Bord Bia & FDII launch new mentoring programme

A new structured mentoring initiative where the expertise of leading indigenous food and drink companies will be shared with small food firms was launched this week at Bord Bia’s Small Business Open Day. More than 120 food companies gathered in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin, to hear how global food and drink companies such as Glanbia, Nestle, Coca-Cola, Kepak, Bulmers, and Kraft will offer their advice and expertise to small food firms in the key areas of business strategy, account management, and logistics. The mentoring programme will be coordinated by Bord Bia in cooperation with FDII (Food and Drink Industry Ireland).

Single Farm Payments processed for Mayo as agri sector thrives

The first meeting of the Glanbia DII Sustainability Advisory Group took place in Ballyragget, County Kilkenny on July 13. This follows the announcement in May that Glanbia is to further develop its sustainability programme with an on-farm programme for its 4,300 Irish milk suppliers.

Mayo students get green light from the Dragons

There were great celebrations in two Castlebar schools last week as Mariyah Zia Janjua from St Joseph’s Secondary School, and Team Envirobriq, from St Gerald’s College made it through to the national final of the Green Dragon Secondary Schools Innovation Challenge. These students really impressed the dragons at the Connacht/Ulster regional heat with their innovative ideas in the environmental category and will be hoping to do the same at the national final in Croke Park on March 26. Here they will battle it out with 25 other finalists in a bid to lay claim to the top prize of €8,000 in development funds to bring their idea to the market.

Bord Bia works with over 400 small food businesses with an annual turnover of some €400 million, representing an increase in value of seven per cent per year since 2007.
